This audio and commentary has been removed out of respect of friends, most especially Elder Jensen. This audio was not fulfilling the purpose I had hoped it would: of inspiring more good, respect, tolerance, and love in the church. It was causing a lot of people to cheer at what they see as a hard position of church leaders. To all of you who love and are inspired by Elder Jensen's words: I am sorry. If you have any questions, concerns, petitions, etc., you are welcome to email me at thesimplespectator@gmail.com. I will be happy to be in contact with you. I truly am the Simple Spectator.

  1. You are letting the jeering of the people in the big and spacious building dictate your blog? You are a coward and a fool. How can there ever be an intellectual discourse about the issues the church faces if information about those issues is buried? This was such a rare look into the inner workings of the church that it was truly valuable. You think it is better for those in the church to not know what the problems are? You realize that Jensen was saying that *was part of the problem*, right?

    1. It's unfair to call him/her a fool and a coward. He brought this to us in the light of compassion and perhaps didn't like the response. I'm glad I got to listen to it before it disappeared, but no need for the harsh criticism.

  2. Galtzo, I am a coward. I am a coward because when I posted this, I posted it anonymously. I am afraid of losing my family, my friends, and much that I hold dear. That makes me cowardly. However, when I took the audio down, it wasn't out of fear. (What would I be afraid of, anyway? Remember: this is anonymous) I took it down out of respect for my friends; and these friends don't even know I was the one who posted this.

You make a great point, though. How can there ever be intellectual discourse about the issues the church faces if the information is buried? Luckily, the information in this Q and A wasn't buried. It was released to the public. You are welcome to read the information on others' blogs, and many forums. It is there for anyone who wants to look for it. However, my public participation in the matter is over.

I am willing to share information with individuals on a one-on-one basis, knowing that it will make a positive difference in the church's community and culture. If you would like to email me at: thesimplespectator@gmail.com, I'd be happy to do what I can do to help.

    1. Information on the internet flows around obstacles. I apologize for my harsh criticism. I had referenced your blog in several places, and when it went away I felt foolish. But now I have linked to other sources, thanks!

  4. Holy cow! I am assuming that your mp3 file is the *sole* source of the Reuters article that is getting so much attention, right? I don't think Reuters ever talked to Elder Jensen or anyone in the church, they just made an article based off your audio recording. Does that sound about right?

I adore Elder Jensen for being so forthright, and I despise the media for making a big circus out of it--as well as attributing some things he didn't even say. Thanks again for sharing such an intimate discussion, (and I hope I still have the mp3 saved somewhere :)

    1. I don't know if Reuter's talked to Elder Jensen or not. I didn't see anything too surprising in their article. I was disappointed with the follow-up articles in the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret News, and ABC 4 news...

  5. PS-Sorry, but I am talking about "news" like this ABC story, which misquotes the Reuters article, which misquotes your audio exchange with Elder Jensen.

    http://www.abc4.com/mediacenter/local.aspx?videoid=3234120

    which stole from

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/31/us-mormonchurch-idUSTRE80T1CM20120131

which stole from your audio interview.
    Am I missing something here?

    It's like the telephone/gossip game!
